The Queensborough Community College men's and women's outdoor track & field teams put on quite a show on Saturday at the 2023 CUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The event consists of City University of New York (CUNY) junior and senior colleges competing again each other across numerous events (18 for women, 20 for men) at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island. Though Queensborough is not counted towards the overall team scoring against the senior colleges, the Tigers proved to be more than a formidable opponent on Saturday.
On the women's side, the Tigers would have placed fourth overall with a team score of 45 points, trailing only Hunter College (183 points w/revised scoring), CCNY (176 points w/revised scoring), and Lehman College (102 points w/revised scoring). The highest finishes for Queensborough on the day included second place overall finishes in the 10,000m Run (
Darlyn Pacheco), and the 3,000m Steeplechase (Pacheco), as well as third place overall finishes in the Hammer Throw (
Kaylah Attis), the 3,000m Steeplechase (
Andrea Rivera), and the 4x400m Relay (
Shivangi Sharma, Pacheco,
Kafilat Yekinni, Rivera).
On the men's side, the Tigers were simply dominant across the board. In the twenty total events contested and scored, the Tigers won an astonishing ten of twenty events. With revised scoring to include the Tigers, Queensborough would have won the meet going away with a total of 205 points. They would have finished well ahead of second place Lehman College with a revised score of 141 points, and CCNY with a revised score of 133 points.
Bryan Godette was the overall champion in the High Jump (1.95m), while
Chrisnel Nicolas was crowned conference champion in the Pole Vault (2.90m).
Peter Hoffmann was the overall champion in the 3,000m Steeplechase with a time of 11:35.71, while
Renaediaz Miller was the overall conference champion in the 1,500m Run with a time of 4:22.83.
David Adekoya was the overall champion in the 110m Hurdles with a time of 15.84, while
Ayoub Elfahim was the top performer in the 100m (11.30) and 200m (22.46) dashes.
LeAndre Simpson was the overall conference champion in the 400m Hurdles (1:00.08). The Tigers also produced the top overall times in the 4x100m (43.44/Elfahim, Adekoya, Simpson,
Justin Eweka) and 4x400m (3:39.93/Simpson, Eweka, Adekoya, Elfahim) relays.
Queensborough now heads to Utica, New York to compete in the 2023 NJCAA Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, which will be hosted by Mohawk Valley Community College, May 11th-13th.
