When a Queensborough Athlete is injured, the Athletic Trainer will decide if an injury requires EMS. The following procedure will be followed:
- ATC will initiate a primary survey and evaluation of the problem.
- Stabilize all life threatening situations of the athlete.
- Instruct a coach or administrator on duty to contact Public Safety, if EMS is needed.
- Continue with evaluation, stabilization, and/or life saving techniques until EMS arrives.
- Designate a coach or administrator to escort athlete to Hospital with EMS. EMS will arrive at RFK main entrance at northeast corner of building.
- Athletic Trainer will fill out accident report and contact Athletic Director to report the situation.
If the Athletic Trainer is not on site and cannot be reached, designate someone to call Public Safety and ask for assistance. Then the following procedure will be followed:
- Stabilize the athlete.
- The person designated to contact Public Safety identify yourself, your location, describe the situation, and ask for an ambulance, if needed.
- Provide emergency care until Public Safety arrives and takes over.
- Provide information regarding the injury to EMS.
- Alert Athletic Trainer of the situation.
- Contact Athletic Director if Athletic Trainer is still unavailable to report the situation. Coach on duty will fill out accident report.
If a non-athlete is injured, designate someone to call Public Safety and ask for assistance. Then the following procedure will be followed:
- Stabilize the non-athlete.
- The person designated to contact Public Safety identify yourself, your location, describe the situation, and ask for an ambulance, if needed.
- Provide emergency care until Public Safety arrives and takes over.
- Provide information regarding the injury to EMS.
- Contact Physical Education office (RFK-216G) immediately and fill out accident report.

Padavan-Preller Field (Baseball)
- Emergency Action Plan is available on site at 236-02 Hillside Avenue, Bellerose, NY.
Lightning Protocol
- If a thunderstorm is in the forecast, please keep all eyes and ears out for lightning or thunder.
- Once lightning is seen or thunder is heard, clear the field/track area and enter RFK gymnasium.
- No events can occur on field/track until 30 minutes after the last lightning flash.
- The athletic director will collaborate with the athletic trainer, officials, and coaches, and will have the final say on if we continue the event or postpone for a future date.
Heat Protocol
All outdoor athletic events at QCC will operate under the guidelines below:
- Caution
- Perform activity as planned, make sure hydration is made available.
- Extreme Caution
- Include fluid breaks every 15-20 minutes of activity.
- Danger
- Consider delaying/postponing/canceling activity.
- Extreme Danger
- No outdoor activity will be allowed.
- The Athletic Trainer will utilize a digital humidity and temperature monitor to determine heat index.
- The Athletic Director will collaborate with the Athletic Trainer and will have final say for any event needing clearance to occur regarding heat.
Cold Protocol
All outdoor athletic events at QCC will operate under the guidelines below:
- 30 degrees Fahrenheit and below
- Be aware of the potential for cold injury and notify appropriate personnel of the potential.
- 25 degrees Fahrenheit and below
- Provide additional protective clothing; cover as much exposed skin as practical; provide opportunities and facilities for re-warming.
- 15 degrees Fahrenheit and below
- Consider modifying activity to limit exposure or to allow more frequent opportunities for re-warming.
- 0 degrees Fahrenheit and below
- No outdoor activity will be allowed.
- All measurements are taking windchill into account.
- The Athletic Director will collaborate with the Athletic Trainer taking the most current conditions reported into account and will have final say for any event needing clearance to occur regarding cold.
