The City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) and Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) have selected Queensborough Community College student-athlete Philip Park as CUNYAC/HSS Scholar-Athlete of the Month for February 2024.
 
Park is in his second season with the Queensborough Men's Track & Field program, majoring in Liberal Arts and Science with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
 
When awarded the honor, Park replied: "Being named Scholar-Athlete of the Month brings me great honor and means that I have excelled in both academics and athletics."
 
Park turned in a strong month of February, helping Queensborough capture the 2024 CUNYAC Community College Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship.
 
At the conference meet, he finished fifth overall and first among junior college participants in the weight throw with a toss of 10.31m, a new personal-record. Park also set a new PR in the shot put, recording a heave of 8.90m.
 
Park is just as successful in the classroom, making the Dean's List three times. He is the President of QCC's Coding Club and also volunteers at a church.
 
When asked how he balances academics and athletics, Park replied: "I have been successfully balancing academics and athletics by prioritizing time on studying while still going to practice and the events.
 
His blend of excellence in athletics and in the classroom embodies the meaning of being a NJCAA student-athlete. When asked what advice he would give to younger student-athletes, Park answered: "Prioritize academics and then athletics to succeed."
