Queensborough Athletics Volunteers on Earth Day

Queensborough Community College student-athletes, coaches, and athletics department staff volunteered their time to plant flowers, bushes and trees on the Queensborough campus to celebrate Earth Day. The campus-wide event was held in collaboration with the QCC administration, buildings & grounds, and student affairs in order to help beautify the campus.

As part of the event, the College community gathered to celebrate the life of Joseph P. Cartolano, who for 30 years served Queensborough as its Chief Superintendent of the Department of Buildings and Grounds.

Members of Joe's family were also present and shared their memories of his long-standing affection for the College and his colleagues. The event's centerpiece was the planting of a delicate young tree surrounded by fuchsia bushes as a memorial in his honor. After the ceremony, volunteers went to their designated spots to begin cleaning and planting outside the Administration Building, Main Gate, Loggia and QCC Art Gallery, Flagpole, and between the Humanities and Science buildings.
