Jon Hochberg is currently in his ninth year as Director of Athletics at Queensborough Community College. In his time at QCC since 2016, Hochberg has led a department that has enjoyed tremendous athletic and academic success at the conference, region, and national levels, including nineteen CUNY Championships, five Region XV Championships, five District Championships, one individual National Champion, and two CUNYAC Commissioner's Cup trophies, to go along with 93 All-Americans. On the academic side, the Tigers have produced 50 NJCAA Academic All-Americans, and five CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award winners.
Since his arrival in Bayside, he has led projects to enhance the department and expand exposure for student-athletes, including the creation of the Queensborough Athletics Instagram account (@qcc_athletics), Twitter account (@qcc_athletics), YouTube channel (@qcc_athletics), the launching of a Sidearm athletics website (www.qcctigers.com), rebranding of the RFK Gymnasium floor, and rebranding of team uniforms and apparel. He has also led the addition of key staff members to the department, in the hiring of a full-time certified athletic trainer (the only one in CUNY at the Community College level), as well as a Student-Athlete Academic Advisor. Both appointments have played a key role in the success of student-athletes in terms of safety and well-being, as well as their retention and academic progress towards graduation.
Hochberg currently serves as President of the City University of New York Community College Athletic Directors. He previously served as President from 2018-2020, Vice President from 2020-2022, and most recently as Interim President from 2023-2024. Hochberg came to Bayside in October 2016 with over seventeen years of intercollegiate athletics experience as an administrator and coach at the NCAA, NJCAA, and USCAA levels. He joined QCC from Molloy University, where he served as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Operations for one year. At Molloy, Hochberg assisted with the daily operations of game-day management and staffing, facility and venue management, apparel and equipment ordering, transportation scheduling, and video exchange.
No stranger to CUNY, Hochberg spent three years at Lehman College as Associate Director of Athletics and was responsible for various aspects of the intercollegiate athletics program including overseeing and coordinating the day-to-day operations for varsity sports and home events, ordering equipment and apparel, maintaining the department's budget, assisting in the management and supervision of all indoor and outdoor athletic facilities, serving as advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), assisting in game scheduling and transportation, as well as serving as associate head men’s basketball coach, NCAA compliance coordinator, and athletics liaison to admissions.
Before arriving at Lehman, Hochberg served as the Director of Athletics at Vaughn College in Flushing where he also served as the head men's basketball coach, leading the Warriors to a 13-17 overall record and the school’s first-ever win against an NCAA opponent.
Prior to Vaughn, he was the head women's basketball coach at Stevens Institute of Technology, in Hoboken, N.J. where he guided the Ducks to the post-season in each of his five seasons. He amassed an overall record of 106-39 during that span, guiding Stevens to the Empire 8 Conference Championship in 2009, and advancing to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. He was named the Empire 8 Coach of the Year in 2008, as Stevens won the ECAC Metro Championship that season.
Before Stevens, Hochberg served as assistant women's basketball coach at Pace University in Pleasantville, N.Y. and Mohawk Valley Community College, in Utica, N.Y. In five seasons at Pace, the team advanced to the NCAA Tournament three times, which includes winning the Northeast Region Championship and advancing to the Elite Eight in 2001.
