On Monday, October 17th, a rivalry is renewed when top-seeded Queensborough Community College and second-seeded Borough of Manhattan Community College square off for conference bragging rights in the 2022 CUNYAC Community College Men's Soccer Championship Game at 7:00 p.m. on the Queens College Varsity Soccer Field. The contest will be broadcast worldwide on
Facebook Live via CUNYAC.
For a seventh time in eight seasons, Queensborough and BMCC will battle for CUNYAC supremacy under the lights. Spectators are permitted to attend the game and will require a ticket for entry. Tickets can be obtained (free of charge) at
cunyathletics.com/tickets. Upon arrival, spectators must provide either proof of full vaccination, a negative COVID test within seven days of the match, or their Cleared4 Access Pass.
Queensborough, the defending conference champions, return to the title game for a ninth consecutive season while the Panthers return to the finals for the first time since 2019 after missing the last two years of competition due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
The Tigers went 7-3 during the regular season, including a perfect 4-0 against CUNYAC opponents to secure a second consecutive regular season championship.
Anthony Gallardo, a CUNYAC Player of the Week honoree, leads the team with six goals and two assists for 14 points.
John Pavana, last season's championship game MVP, ranks second on the squad in points (12) with five goals and two assists.
BMCC enters Monday's match 6-6 overall and winners in two of its last three outings. Ademola Opesanwo is the team's leading goal scorer with seven, highlighted by three game-winning scores. El Hadji Ady Gaye, a CUNYAC Player of the Week recipient, ranks second on the squad with six. Goalkeeper Abdul Mumin Seidu, a NJCAA DIII Goalie of the Week honoree, has made 63 saves and has a strong save percentage of .809.
In the regular season meeting between the two programs, Queensborough scored three second half goals to knock off BMCC by a 4-1 score. Four different players found the back of the net for the Tigers in the victory.
Monday marks the 11th time in conference history that the two teams are matched up for the league trophy, with BMCC holding a 7-3 series advantage.
