Teron Simpson, a Queensborough Community College alumni and long-time assistant men's basketball coach for the Tigers, has been named interim head coach for the men's basketball program for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
Simpson has been an assistant coach under the recently departed Clarence Emengo since the 2012-13 season. He also played for the Tigers from 2001-03 and helped bring home a CUNYAC Championship as a player in 2003 and again as an assistant coach in 2023. After leaving Queensborough, Simpson went on to York College (NY), where he led the Cardinals to back-to-back CUNYAC Championships in 2006 and 2007. Simpson was named the 2007 CUNYAC Championship Game Most Valuable Player after he nailed a buzzer beating 3-point field goal from just inside half court to send York to the NCAA Tournament with a shocking 56-54 victory.
Queensborough Athletic Director Jon Hochberg added, "Teron has worked hard alongside Coach Emengo for the past eleven years and has earned the opportunity to lead this program. He's a proven winner within CUNYAC as a player and coach and he's a mentor and recruiter who understands CUNY at both the junior college and senior college levels. He's also a Queensborough Tiger through and through and takes pride in our program and what it means to represent our institution in the blue & gold on and off the floor."
Simpson will begin his duties as interim head coach immediately.
