Women's Volleyball Head Coach Jason Demas Retires from Coaching Duties

Queensborough Community College head women's volleyball coach Jason Demas has announced that he is retiring from coaching duties effective immediately. Demas has served as head coach of the Tigers since the 2010 season. Though he will be stepping away from duties as a coach, he will remain at Queensborough as a full-time associate professor in the Health, Physical Education, and Dance Department.

During his tenure as head coach, Demas recorded an overall record of 280-94, good for a winning percentage of .749. He never finished a season with a losing record. In the fourteen seasons played while he was the head coach, he won the CUNYAC/CUNY Coach of the Year award an astounding eleven times. He also captured the Region XV Coach of the Year award four times, while winning the District Coach of the Year award five separate times.

Under his tutelage, the Tigers won an incredible eleven CUNYAC/CUNY Tournament Championships, including eight titles in the past nine seasons played. In region play, the Tigers won five Region XV Tournament Championships, as well as five District Championships. His leadership helped lead the women's volleyball program to five consecutive appearances at the NJCAA Division III National Championship Tournament from 2016-2021 (the 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

Queensborough Director of Athletics Jon Hochberg commented that "Jason leaves behind a legacy at Queensborough that is unmatched within CUNY at the Community College level in women's volleyball. We certainly thank him for the job he's done over the years and appreciate the level that he has elevated our women's volleyball program to."

Under his leadership, dozens of student-athletes thrived on and off the court, both athletically and academically. Some of the noteworthy accolades received by women's volleyball players recruited and coached by Jason Demas include:
