The Queensborough Community College women's volleyball team left no doubt on Monday night, as they won the City University of New York (CUNY) Community College Women's Volleyball Championship for the eighth time in the past nine seasons.
In the tournament, which was hosted by QCC in the RFK Gymnasium, the Tigers swept both of their opponents by scores of 3-0 and 3-0. In their semifinal match, the Tigers (who were regular season champions) rolled past Hostos Community College by scores of 25-17, 25-16, and 25-9. In the championships match, the Tigers put Kingsborough Community College away early and won the title convincingly by scores of 25-16, 25-11, and 25-19. It's the second consecutive title for Queensborough and the eighth in the past nine seasons.
For their efforts in the tournament, freshman
Scout Whiting and sophomore
Cynthia Saravia Reyes were named to the All-Tournament Team. Sophomore
Michelle Liu was named the tournament Most Valuable Player, which is also a repeat, as she won the same award for her play in the 2023 championship tournament.
Queensborough will now gear up for the 2024 Region XV Tournament, which will begin on Thursday, October 31st with the Tigers hosting the Colts of Orange Community College at 7:00 p.m. in Bayside.
