Five members of the Queensborough Community College women's volleyball team were honored on Monday by the City University of New York women's volleyball head coaches.
First-year head coach Lia Briffa was named the 2025 CUNY Coach of the Year for leading the Tigers to a 9-1 conference record in the regular season and leading the Tigers to their third consecutive CUNY Tournament Championship. Freshman setter
Aryam Perez Capellan was also selected as the 2025 CUNY Rookie of the Year.
All-Conference honorees included Perez Capellan, sophomore outside hitter
Samantha Mateo, and freshman opposite hitter
Laury Rodriguez. Freshman outside hitter
Camila Cubas was also named to the 2025 CUNY Sportsmanship Team.
The Tigers ended the season with a 12-12 overall record and won the CUNY Tournament Championship for the eighth time in the past nine seasons. This was the first season as head coach for Lia Briffa after having served as an assistant coach with the program from 2016-2021.
